Long-Awaited Disparity Study Shows City Continues to Discriminate Against Black and Non-White Contractors

Another likely short meeting, but probably a considerable share of the meeting will be taken up in discussing the City’s most recent contracting disparity study covering the period of 2016 to 2021. The disparity study covered about half a billion in contracts, with some stunning revelations about the City’s failure to allocate a share of City business to Black and minority owned businesses. You can read more about the study here, and follow along in this live reporting thread [on Twitter and for those that do not use it, the thread, which lacks video] from the Life Enrichment Committee where the report was first heard before being scheduled to full Council on the Non-Consent calendar.

Not much on the consent calendar that’s controversial this week. The reports have already been heard at committee and will just be filed. The most significant legislation is a change-order authorization with Mcguire and Hester for the City’s paving program.
